A group of retired Marines is asking Connecticut’s attorney general to allow the “Don’t Tread on Me” Gadsden flag to fly over the state Capitol on July 4 after Capitol Police refused the request saying it doesn’t fall within the state’s flag flying parameters.
The group says the yellow banner, which sports a coiled rattlesnake and its trademark motto, is the original flag of the U.S. Marine Corps and clearly fits into the section of the policy which states that the Connecticut State Capitol can fly “flags of recognized military organizations of the U.S.A.”
But Capitol Police have denied several requests to fly the flag — which has become a favorite nationwide among the Tea Party movement and a popular alternative to the stars and stripes – saying it is not the official Marines flag.
“The Gadsden flag was a personal standard used by one admiral during the Revolutionary War,” Capitol Chief of Police Walter Lee told FoxNews.com. “The Marine Corps never claimed that to be one of its organizational flags.”
Retired Marine Patrick Rubino says the Marines see it very differently.
“I’d learned about in the Marine Corps. It’s one of the first, if not the first Marine Corps flag,” Rubino told FoxNews.com. “They even flew it over our bases in Afghanistan and Iraq while I was there.”
Having heard that the police had denied a previous request to have the flag displayed at the Capitol, Rubino wrote a letter to lawmakers to find out why.
“I didn’t get any response from that so I just went down there and submitted a request to have it flown on Memorial Day because my brother was coming home from the Army so I thought it would be a great thing,” he said. “They denied it before I even filled out the form.”
The reason given for the rejection, Rubino said, was that the “rules were going to be changed” so they were denying it preemptively.
“And now I’m finding out they’re not even changing the rule so that the flag would be denied, they’re just denying it,” he said.
A follow up request from Rubino’s mother, Katheryn Brown, to fly it on July 4 was also denied.
But the policy wasn’t always so strictly interpreted.
The Society of Cincinnati, a historic group dedicated to preserving the ideals of the American Revolution has flown its flag over the Capitol every July 4 since at least 1968. It was denied this year amid the Gadsden flag flap.
Capitol Police even approved an earlier request to fly the Gadsden Flag over the Capitol in April, but reconsidered after lawmakers dubbed it a political symbol due to Tea Party connections to the request and said it didn’t fit the state’s requirements.
In hopes of settling the dispute, a group of former marines and supporters plan to gather at the state attorney general’s office to issue a final decision on the issue,.
“We’re going to be going down on the 30th to put the paper work in,” retired Marine Tim McCall told FoxNews.com. “The Capitol Police are the ones in charge of granting or denying the request, so the idea for the 30th is to go to AG Blumenthal’s office and request that he issue a directive for the Capitol Police to comply with the law as written and stated just to get some resolution on the issue.”
McCall added that if it’s not in the cards to have the flag on display July 4, he hopes the matter is at least resolved in time to see it fly on October 23 to commemorate the 1983 barracks bombing of the Marines in Beirut, Lebanon, where he served.
“Historically, it’s like when you look at a picture of George Washington; he was the first president of the United States so as a patriotic American you look to George Washington as kind of representation as the forefather of the country,” McCall said. “The Gadsden flag is the original flag of the Marine Corps, so it’s the forefather standard of the Marine Corps.”
Rubino says that’s what the Connecticut government needs to keep in mind above anything else.
“I know the flag has been adopted by another group, but what it is and who decides to use it are two different things,” he said. “We know what it is and we know why we want it to be up there. … It’s a really important way to pay tribute to our history and that’s a great message.”
Our government is lying to us. Are we running out of time? For the last several years, we have been living in a false bubble of hope that has been fueled by massive amounts of debt and bailout money. As each wave of the crisis hits us, the solutions that our leaders will present to us will involve even more debt and even more money printing. And each time, those “solutions” will only make our problems even worse. Right now, events are unfolding in Europe and in the United States that are pushing us toward the next major crisis moment. I sincerely hope that we have some more time before the next crisis overwhelms us, but as you will see, time is rapidly running out.

#1 According to TrimTab’s CEO Charles Biderman, corporate insider purchases of stock have hit an all-time low, and the ratio of corporate insider selling to corporate insider buying has now reached an astounding 50 to 1….
While retail is being told to buy-buy-buy, Biderman exclaims that “insiders at U.S. companies have bought the least amount of shares in any one month,” and that the ratio of insider selling to buying is now 50-to-1 – a monthly record.
#2 On Friday we learned that personal income in the United States experienced its largest one month decline in 20 years…
Personal income decreased by $505.5 billion in January, or 3.6%, compared to December (on a seasonally adjusted and annualized basis). That’s the most dramatic decline since January 1993, according to the Commerce Department.
#3 In a stunning move, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says that he will appoint an emergency financial manager to take care of Detroit’s financial affairs…
Snyder, 54, took a step he avoided a year ago, empowering an emergency financial manager who can sweep aside union contracts, sell municipal assets, restructure services and reorder finances. He announced the move yesterday at a public meeting in Detroit.
If this does not work, Detroit will almost certainly have to declare bankruptcy. If that happens, it will be the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.
#4 On Friday it was announced that the unemployment rate in Italy had risen to 11.7 percent. That was a huge jump from 11.3 percent the previous month, and Italy now has the highest unemployment rate that it has experienced in 21 years.
#5 The youth unemployment rate in Italy has risen to a new all-time record high of 38.7 percent.
#6 On Friday it was announced that the unemployment rate in the eurozone as a whole had just hit a brand new record high of 11.9 percent.
#7 On Friday it was announced that the unemployment rate in Greece has now reached 27 percent, and it is being projected that it will reach30 percent by the end of the year.
#8 The youth unemployment rate in Greece is now an almost unbelievable 59.4 percent.
#9 On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of protesters filled the streets of Lisbon and other Portuguese cities to protest the austerity measures that are being imposed upon them. It was reportedly the largest protest in the history of Portugal.
#10 According to Goldman Sachs, bank deposits declined all over Europe during the month of January.
#11 Over the weekend, the deputy governor of China’s central bank declared that China is prepared for a “currency war“…
A top Chinese banker said Beijing is “fully prepared” for a currency war as he urged the world to abide by a consensus reached by the G20 to avert confrontation, state media reported on Saturday.
Yi Gang, deputy governor of China’s central bank, issued the call after G20 finance ministers last month moved to calm fears of a looming war on the currency markets at a meeting in Moscow.
Those fears have largely been fuelled by the recent steep decline in the Japanese yen, which critics have accused Tokyo of manipulating to give its manufacturers a competitive edge in key export markets over Asian rivals.
#12 Italy is an economic basket case at this point, and the political gridlock in Italy is certainly not helping matters. Former comedian Beppe Grillo’s party could potentially tip the balance of power one way or the other in Italy, and over the weekend he made some comments that are really shaking things up over in Europe. For one thing, he is suggesting that Italy should hold a referendum on the euro…
“I am a strong advocate of Europe. I am in favor of an online referendum on the euro,” Beppe Grillo told Bild am Sonntag.
Such a vote would not be legally binding in Italy, where referendums can only be used to repeal laws or parts of laws, but would carry political weight. Grillo has said in the past that membership of the euro should be up to the Italian people.
In addition, Grillo is also suggesting that Italy’s debt has gotten so large that renegotiation is the only option…
In an interview with a German magazine published on Saturday, Mr Grillo said that “if conditions do not change” Italy “will want” to leave the euro and return to its former national currency.
The 64-year-old comic-turned-political activist also said Italy needs to renegotiate its €2 trillion debt.
At 127 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), it is the highest in the euro zone after Greece.
“Right now we are being crushed, not by the euro, but by our debt. When the interest payments reach €100 billion a year, we’re dead. There’s no alternative,” he told Focus, a weekly news magazine.
He said Italy was in such dire economic straits that “in six months, we will no longer be able to pay pensions and the wages of public employees.”
And of course government debt has taken center stage in the United States as well.
The sequester cuts have now gone into effect, and they will definitely have an effect on the U.S. economy. Of course that effect will not be nearly as dramatic as many Democrats are suggesting, but without a doubt those cuts will cause the U.S. economy to slow down a bit.
Well, everyone should keep watching Europe very closely, and it will also be important to keep an eye on Wall Street. There are a whole bunch of indications that the stock market is at or near a peak. For example, just check out what one prominent stock market analyst recently had to say…
“Every reliable technical tool is warning of major peaking action,” said Walter Zimmerman, the senior technical analyst at United-ICAP. “This includes sentiment, momentum, classical chart patterns, and Elliott wave analysis.
“Most of the rally in the stock market since 2009 can be chalked up to the Federal Reserve’s attempt to create a ‘wealth effect’ through higher stock market prices. This only exacerbates the downside risk. Why? The stock market no is longer a lead indicator for the economy. It is instead reflecting Fed manipulation. Pushing the stock market higher while the real economy languishes has resulted in another bubble.
“The next leg down will not be a partial correction of the advance since the 2009 lows. It will be another major financial crisis. The worst is yet to come.”
Sadly, most people will continue to deny that anything is wrong until it is far too late.
Many areas of Europe are already experiencing economic depression, and it is only a matter of time before the U.S. follows suit.

Steve Stockman — who served one prior term, from 1995 to 1997 — voted “present.”
On a first round of voting, Stockman didn’t answer the clerk’s call of his name and he was among a small group given a second chance.
Other tea party-backed Texans fell in line with Boehner, and all the Democrats from Texas supported Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Here in MA there is a myth that in order to be elected into office one needs to embrace Progressive Ideology. Our state is noted for its social welfare generosity which has become a Progressive magnet for illegal Aliens and welfare recipients from across the region. A system that was originally designed in response families that believed in the Protestant work ethic but who had their bread winner disabled through no fault of their own. Recently, Lloyd Marcus wrote about America and Divine Intervention in Trevor Loudon’s NoisyRoom blog. It is his perception of how our society has evolved into a Social-Economic-Political “gimme Society”, where entitlements instead of principle would appears to be our new voting mantra.
He writes that, “Some pundits say Obama has so successfully transformedAmerica into a “gimme society” that the food stamp president will win re-election in a landslide. Other political wizards say the bloom is off the rose. A majority of Americans realize that Obama is a far left, radical, socialist/progressive, anti-American, lawless dictator. His reign of terror will end come November. Arguments are strong supporting both scenarios.”
Whether one believes the former or latter political prognostication about the presidential race, one fact is abundantly clear. Recent polls indicate that Americans of all persuasions have little to no faith in Congress. In April, “Just one in 10 Americans approves of the job Congress is doing, according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday, tying the branch’s lowest approval rating in 38 years.”
As we look to fill our seats in State and National offices this fall, we suggest that you look to a new Role Model for Massachusetts, namely Allen West. He warned us that The Obama Middle East Policy was leading to a Caliphate whose sole aim would be to march on Israel and to make Jerusalem their Capital. Last May, during a rally for Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohammad Mursi, Egyptian Cleric Safwat Higazi spoke before an adoring crowd of thousands, proclaiming, “We can see how the dream of the Islamic caliphate is being realized, God willing, by Dr. Mohamed Mursi.” Cleric Safwat Higazi further stated that, “The capital of the United States of the Arabs will be Jerusalem.”
It should now be clear to any neutral observer that the Obama Administration has via its “Arab Spring” and “American Weakness” foreign policy initiatives, have deliberately created a Muslim Caliphate.

Our good friends in the Libyan Government then aid the Muslim Brotherhood by providing the location of our Ambassador’s “Safe House”, thereby enabling his murder along with other embassy personnel l. Obama waits before announcing the deaths of our Embassy personnel even while it is making headlines in Europe. When he finally speaks, he soft peddles the entire atrocity and can’t wait to get on Air Force One, so he is not too late for his Fundraiser.

The iconic star of “Dirty Harry” and the Oscar-winning director of “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby,” Eastwood criticized President Barack Obama for failing to turn the economy around and for wanting to close the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects.
Eastwood says Obama has failed to deliver on his promises and it’s time for Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, to take over.
He entertained the audience with a mock interview with Obama, posing questions and pretending that Obama had told Eastwood to shut up.
Barack Hussei’sn Obama’s first mentor, who he described as “Frank” in his autobiography Dreams from My Father was an avowed Communist and was suspected of being a Russian spy. Trevor Loudon, a political journalist and researcher identified “Frank” as Frank Marshall Davis who Obama’s Progressive Propagandists are portraying as an “American journalist, poet, and political and labor movement activist.” In fact, Frank Marshall Davis’s poetry praised the Russian Communist butcher, Stalin. Obma’s confident in the White House, Valerie Jarett’s grandfather was a leader in the American Peace Mobilization Movement, a Soviet front group. Do the research yourself by reading Trevor Loudon’s book, Barack Obama and the Enemies Withinand Paul Kengor’s, The Comunist. If we submit to the court’s jurisdiction, our presidents and Cabinet officials could be prosecuted criminally for going to war without U.N. approval. This would, of course, give Russia and China a veto over our military actions. Clinton says she will stop our military’s hands from being tied, but we all must realize that once we accept the International Criminal Court, we go down a slippery slope. The court could even prosecute Americans who have been cleared by our own judicial system.
• The Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) has been signed, and the Obama administration — with the aid of RINO Sen. Richard Lugar (Ind.) — will push for its ratification as soon as Lugar’s primary in Indiana is over this year. LOST requires that the United States pay an international body half of its royalties from offshore drilling. The body would then distribute the funds as it sees fit to whichever nations it chooses. The United States would only have one vote out of 160 regarding where the money goes. LOST will also oblige us to hand over our offshore drilling technology to any nation that wants it … for free. Our own Senator Kerry is leading the charge for this treaty on behalf of the Obama Administration! Senator Kerry has held hearings on the Treaty and allowed 16 People to testify in favor of the treat and only 2 people to testify against the treaty. He is playing hardball, perhaps he is seeking favor to lock in his next venue as part of the Obama Administration, should they prevail in November! The word on the street from reliable sources is that Republican Senators who face an election in November have told Senator Kerry that if the treaty is brought up for a vote before November 6th hey would have to vote nay, but after they would vote yea! • Small-arms control — Clinton is about to negotiate on a global ban on export of small arms. It would only apply to private citizens but, of course, most small-arms deals come not from individuals or private firms but from governments, specifically those of the United States, Russia, China and Israel. The treaty would require each nation to adopt measures to stop exportation of small arms. It is easy to see how this could be a backdoor way to require national registration of all guns and to assert federal regulation over firearms. It would also require the registration of all ammunition to track its source once a gun is fired. The Second Amendment be damned!

• Outer Space Code of Conduct— Under the guise of stopping debris from accumulating in outer space, the European Union has enlisted Clinton in negotiations over a code of conduct. The code might inhibit or prohibit the United States from deploying anti-missile missiles on platforms in space, denying us the key weapon we need to counter Iranian, Chinese and North Korean missile threats. European leftists reacted angrily when G.W. Bush opted out of the ABM treaty banning defensive weapons. Now they seek to reimpose it under the guise of a code of conduct.

Unfortunately, his amendment (which would have stopped the treaty from forcing abortion policy on countries that sign) was thwarted by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.)
It’s the latest threat to parents’ rights that no one knows about–and yesterday, the Senate moved one step closer to making it the law of the land. Like most U.N. treaties, this one sounds harmless enough. But make no mistake–its innocuous name, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), masks a cunning attack on parental authority, unborn life, and U.S. sovereignty. Of course, this is a favorite strategy of liberal administrations: using treaties to get radical policies through the country’s backdoor. In this instance, it would bring our nation even closer to President Obama’s apparent goal of putting America under global governance.
As Phyllis Schafly points out, the U.S. already enacted the strongest piece of disabilities legislation in the world. This idea that the U.N. “can provide more benefits or protections for persons with disabilities than the U.S. is bizarre,” she writes in an excellent column that debunks the need for such a treaty. “The United States always treats individuals, able or disabled, rich or poor, innocent or guilty, better than any nation.” Democrats argue that it would help the rest of the world “catch up” to our standards. But, as Sen. Jim DeMint and others have made clear, the U.S. doesn’t need to sign away its rights to provide leadership in that area.
While this is a noble cause that embodies the American ethic–treating people with dignity and respect–it gives the U.N. a profound stake in U.S. law and the rights of people across the country. Specifically, the CRPD takes aim at parents, declaring that an international body–not moms and dads–will be the ultimate authority on issues like education. The treaty slips in phrases like “best interest of the child,” which, as Sen. Rick Santorum pointed out with me on last week’s radio show, are “red alert alarm words.” They mean that government officials or courts will be in the position of deciding what’s in your child’s best interest–not you. Under CRPD, the government would supersede parents in setting course plans for both gifted and special needs kids. The Homeschool Legal Defense Association is concerned–and rightly so. It maintains that this Convention signals a dramatic turnaround in parental rights.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a U.N. proposal if it didn’t include a backdoor to greater abortion access. “The feminists saw to it that this treaty about disabilities includes language in Article 25 that requires signatories to ‘provide persons with disabilities… free or affordable health care,” Phyllis notes, “including in the area of sexual and reproductive health and population-based health programs.’” Translation: the global community could force America to sanction sterilization or abortion for the disabled–at taxpayer expense! Although Sen. DeMint managed to delay the CRPD a week, the Committee, including three of its Republicans–Sens. John Barrasso (Wy.), Richard Lugar (Ind.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.)–voted yesterday to send the treaty to the Senate floor, where it could be ratified as early as next week. Between now and then, it is absolutely critical for people to see that what’s at stake in this debate, which is nothing short of our authority as parents–and as a nation. By law, the Convention will need 67 votes to pass, which means we need to persuade at least 34 senators to defeat it. Contact your senators today and urge them to vote down this deadly infringement on U.S. sovereignty. Your rights depend on it.
Senator Kerry: Is in Favor of this Treaty
Word on the street from reliable sources is that Our Senator Kerry will attempt to push this Treaty thru the Senate in early September as soon as they return to Washington. Our Senator believes that he has the votes to sneak it through while everyone is preoccupied with the election and children returing to school.
The fact of the matter is that this treaty would not benefit a single American!
Gerry Dembrowski Congratulating US Representative Allen West upon receipt of his “Citizen Patriot” Award
Col. Allen West’s visit to the Lexington Battlefield Green and Dr. Gerry Dembrowski’s Fundraiser in Winchester, was met with tremendous amounts of patriotic enthusiasm and support. As retired military and an avid history buff, Col. West’s purpose in visiting the Lexington Green was to pay homage to Prince Estabrook in front of the monument erected to commemorate his patriotism and service to our country.
Prince Estabrook was a black slave and MinutemenPrivate who fought and was wounded at the Battle of Lexington, the first battle of the American Revolutionary War. An undated broadside from the time identified him as “a Negro Man”, spelled his name Easterbrooks, and listed him among the wounded fr a “Citizen Patriot” Award to om Lexington. Born around 1741, he was a slave belonging to the family of Benjamin Estabrook from whom he most likely took his name.
Prince Estabrook was honored in 2008 by the city of Lexington with a monument erected in front of Buckman Tavern as being the first black combatant of the American Revolution and for representing the thousands of slaves who fought for their country even though their own freedom was not afforded to their people until almost a hundred years later. The inscription on the marker reads:
“In Honor of Prince Estabrook — Prince Estabrook was a slave who lived in Lexington. At dawn on April, 19, 1775, he was one of the Lexington Minute Men awaiting the arrival of the British Regulars at the Buckman Tavern. In the battle which followed, Prince Estabrook was wounded on Lexington Green. Through circumstances and destiny, he thus became the first black soldier to fight in the American Revolution. — This monument is dedicated to the memory of Prince Estabrook and the thousands of other courageous black patriots long denied the recognition they deserve. — Donated by the Alice Hinkle Memorial Fund — April 21, 2008″
After paying his respects at the Estabrook monument, Col West visited Buckman ‘s Tavern where surprised patrons once again spontaneously displayed their admiration and passion for Col. West. From Lexington, Col. West made his way to Lucia’s restaurant in Winchester where he was once again met with an outpouring of enthusiastic support. Gerry Dembrowski’s Campaign then presented the Col with the very appropriate “Citizen Patriot” award. We would like to thank Gerry and his campaign i folks for allowing us to meet one of our Country’s foremost “Citizen Patriots.”
