Momentum appears to be moving our way in the battle to defeat the “physician assisted suicide” ballot question in Massachusetts (Question 2) on Nov. 6. Recent polls generally have shown about a 60-40 lead for the “Yes” vote. But a barrage of well-honed “No on 2″ television and radio commercials by the Committee Against Physician Assisted Suicide has begun to hit the airwaves, and the sense is that it’s making a difference.

Presenting the facts changes minds on “assisted suicide”

Most people who have not heard much about Question 2 generally react on a “compassionate” emotional level. But when they are presented with the facts and arguments regarding the actual wording of the bill itself, and how that will affect them and others, they are quite likely to change their minds.

There are a couple of major points. As we’ve documented, the bill itself is very poorly written and is fraught with dangers. There is the subversion of the role of doctors from healers into killers. And there is the record of what actually happens when assisted suicide becomes legal (e.g., in Oregon or Switzerland), versus the “lore” presented by proponents.

Bringing the message directly to the people

We’re doing our part taking the message forward. On October 18, MassResistance’s Brian Camenker, also part of the ballot committee MassLifeWithDignity.org, spoke opposite a supporter of the measure at the League of Women Voters forum in Norwood.

It was an interesting comparison between the two approaches. As you can see in the video, the “yes” arguments are largely emotional and mostly supported by the liberal establishment and various medical activists. The “no” side is able to use the facts, including the problems with the text of the bill, the recent experiences in places where it exists, and the larger historical context. The “no” side is also widely supported by the medical profession.

Liberal media not in the tank on this one!

The liberal media has been surprisingly reluctant to carry the water for this, even though it’s part of the traditional progressive agenda. Probably the most aggressive article we’ve seen was posted yesterday by The Atlantic. It hits this issue right between the eyes:

What’s also interesting is that the Boston Globe — arguably the most liberal big-city paper in the country — has published considerable material opposed to the measure, far more than articles supporting it. Much of it is very well thought out and compelling.

For example, in the Boston Globe:

“Question 2 is deeply flawed” by Liz Walker (former TV anchorwoman)

“What about do no harm?” by Jeff Jacoby, Globe columnist.

“Jack Kevorkian comes to town” by Tom Keane (former Boston City Councilor)

But the battle of the polls still continues in the final stretch. Our sense is that the TV commercials are changing a lot of minds. Let’s hope it’s enough to make the difference on election day.

ACTION SUGGESTION: We guess that many voters will show up at the polls with no knowledge of Question 2. We think that holding a sign with a clear, brief message would have a big impact. Something like:
NO on Question 2 or Stop Assisted Suicide! or Doctors should NOT kill!

2. In the four “gay marriage vote” states: Gay lobby and pro-gay donors spending millions in final weeks of campaign. But pro-marriage forces continue to fight hard.

On Nov. 6, four states — Maryland, Maine, Washington, and Minnesota — will be voting on “gay marriage.’

As expected, it’s become a battle against big money even more than in past years. As the final weeks of the election season roll by, the national homosexual group Human Rights Campaign (lavishly funded by corporate America) has been pouring $4.4 million into these races.

And earlier this week New York City’s billionaire mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he’s writing checks totaling $500,000 for this effort.

And this is just the latest rush of cash. On July 27, the New York Times reported that Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, announced he was donating $2.5 million to push “gay marriage” in Washington’s upcoming referendum. The article also mentions that Microsoft executives Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer have already kicked in $100,000 each. And the list of other corporations — from Adobe Systems to Wells Fargo — is staggering.

(This also shows the strategic importance of homosexual activists’ efforts decades ago to insert non-discrimination clauses into corporate personnel policies. That mindset has taken over the top levels of corporate management.)

On our side, the National Organization for Marriage is spending approximately $2 million. And the Catholic Church, in states like Minnesota, is also raising several hundred thousand dollars. Many individual donors are helping out, as well.

But to our knowledge, Chick-fil-A has not contributed anything substantial to the pro-marriage effort this year, despite the huge outpouring of support from pro-marriage conservatives on the “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” back in August.

According to press reports, the most recent figures for the four states are (in millions of dollars):

Pro-family forces fighting hard

The pro-family forces in each of the four states are fighting back in their own way. Each state’s pro-family groups are struggling with funding, but are finding creative and effective ways to get the word out. In each state, MassResistance material is being used in the fight.

We’ve been very impressed with Preserve Marriage Washington, which seems to be leading the fight there. In particular, they have posted some campaign ads/videos on the marriage issue that are REALLY good. They are not afraid to “tell it like it is” regarding the effect of homosexuality on society. And they do it in a very well-crafted, compelling way. Several of their videos use material originally from MassResistance, including the David Parker issue. Some of the videos are produced by them, others are done by National Organization for Marriage or Family Research Council.

We’re glad that Preserve Marriage Washington is being bold. We’ve been generally critical of pro-marriage groups that are afraid to discuss the central issue of the “gay marriage” fight — homosexual behavior and the homosexual movement — and instead fall back on peripheral or less effective issues such as “every child needs a mother and a father.”

As a result of this and other activity in Washington, they are improving in the polls. As we write this, it is pretty much a statistical dead heat (after previously being pretty far behind). And this is after the huge cash inflow by the pro-gay executives listed above.

Maine update:

Just today, Protect Marriage Maine has produced a state-wide TV commercial featuring David and Tonia Parker and their infamous case here in Massachusetts, which MassResistance first reported on starting back in 2005. This case was used by the Maine people in the previous marriage fight there in 2009, and we’re pleased they’re bringing it up again.

Minnesota update:

This week MassResistance did a long interview with the State House bureau reporter representing dozens of Minnesota newspapers across the state, including Minneapolis and St. Paul. The subject was “What same-sex ‘marriage’ has done to Massachusetts.”

3. More big money: National homosexual movement teams up with “conservative” GOP groups to elect radical gay activist Republican, Richard Tisei, to Congress in Mass.

Again, what’s happening in Massachusetts may soon be happening across the country.

Last week we reported that the national GOP establishment is pouring over a million dollars to elect Richard Tisei to Congress in Massachusetts. They have named Tisei as one of the select “conservative young guns” they want to focus their energies on to get elected.

We documented Tisei’s record: as a radical homosexual activist, dedicated to pushing “gay marriage” across the country; as pro-abortion (rated 100% by Planned Parenthood); as hostile to religious faith; as the only Republican to sponsor the “transgender rights” bill in the Mass. Senate; and the only Republican to vote against the state tax rollback in 2000.

Not exactly what one would consider “conservative.”

Big “gay” money coming in

Well, there’s more.

Who would ever imagine that the national homosexual movement would team up with GOP “conservative” stalwarts Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, and Speaker John Boehner? The infamous national PAC Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund has selected Tisei as one of its top candidates in the country for support. In addition, the pro-gay American Unity PAC has already spent over $500,000 for Tisei, according to the Associated Press. Adding to that, it’s likely that Tisei will get a good part of the $10 million that billionaire NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced he’s spending for pro-gay candidates.

Here in Massachusetts, this been buttressed by the Boston Globe and Boston Herald (both of which support “gay rights) which have both enthusiastically endorsed Tisei in their editorials.

As the Globe gushed in its lead editorial:“There’s longstanding evidence of Tisei’s willingness to defy his party and even public sentiment at key points; he voted against rolling back the state income tax from 5.3 percent to 5 percent because he didn’t think the state could afford to do so. He argues that, because he would be the only openly gay Republican to be elected to Congress, he would have a national profile of sorts. He would, and he should use it to press for tolerance and moderation among his fellow Republicans.”

The reaction among Massachusetts Republicans — very disturbing

We’d like to say that there’s been an uprising against how Mass. Republicans are being railroaded in the 6th District, particularly among conservatives.

But most of the people — and certainly all the GOP politicians — whom we talk to have pretty much abandoned their principles when it comes to the 2012 ballot box. And they basically believe Tisei’s slick TV ads saying he’ll “be a great representative for the 6th District.” The idea that “any Republican” must be elected seems to trump everything else. The voters may be pro-life and support traditional marriage, but they don’t actually intend to vote that way. The concept of blanking out a race on principle completely eludes almost all Massachusetts conservatives. It’s a sad and disturbing situation.

We even believe that as bad as the Democrat incumbent John Tierney is, Tisei will be worse because of the lasting impact he’ll have on the national Republican Party.

MassResistance bashed in homosexual press over Tisei

Not surprisingly, the homosexual press in Boston is having a conniption over MassResistance’s expose’ of Tisei. Leading the pack is Edge Boston which also supplies articles to other homosexual publications. Since MassResistance is the only pro-family group willing to confront this issue, we’re naturally an easy target for the vitriol of the homosexual lobby.

Last week Edge Boston published an article titled, “Ultra-Right Fights GOP for Helping Mass. Gay House Candidate” which vents their anger at us.

Interestingly, the charges against us are, well, true. For example, among their rants about MassResistance in the article:

MassResistance is trying to spread the word on Tisei’s “passionate support” for marriage equality. “He brags that he fought to make it ‘legal’ in Massachusetts,” the group’s website proclaims. “He believes it’s a civil right that must be granted across America.” The site also points out he appeared in a video made by MassEquality to promote gay marriage.

Yup, we’re guilty as charged. Of course, like so much in the homosexual press, the article plays the “dangerous religious right” card by labeling MassResistance director Brian Camenker as a “Christian conservative.” Well, not quite. Actually, Camenker is Jewish. But hey, it rounds out the article so well!

Since GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor (along with Paul Ryan) was the ringleader in setting up and selecting this so-called “conservative young guns” group, we tried calling his office for a clarification on just how Tisei was selected over so many better-qualified candidates around the country. We were finally told that Cantor’s “press person” would answer that for us. But despite numerous calls and emails, that “press person” doesn’t get back to us.

Just another Obama Abomination!

In 2011, our Government has provided  ” free“ give-away phones to welfare clients that has cost you and I $1.6B and is climbing. This Administration is buying votes and allegiances with our tax dollars in accordance with Obama’s  October 19, 1998 Loyola College forum on community organizing and policy making  speech. In that speech Obama  stated that he favored a government redistribution of wealth and more importantly, he viewed welfare recipients and “the working poor” as “a majority coalition” that could be mobilized to help advance progressive policies and elect their champions.


The Barack Hussein Obama Administration is purchasing votes with programs like the “Obama Phones” even though we do not have the tax revenues to pay for these  outrages. Consequently,  Ben  Bernake and his Fed minions have been purchasing  as much as 80% of our $16T National Debt associated with these “Welfare Frauds” with increasingly worthless US paper dollars.  This monumental US debt accumulation, using  Quantitative Easing (Another name for selling/buying US Bonds) will result at some point in the near future in an Inflationary Spiral that will make Germany’s Weimar debacle seem like a cake walk!

Where do “Obama phones” come from?

The video of an Obama supporter bragging about having an “Obama phone” has gone viral on the web, but where do these “free cell phones” come from?

The program is called Lifeline, established in 1984, originally created to subsidize landline phone service for low income Americans, funded by government-collected telecommunication fees, paid by consumers.

In 2008, the program was expanded to support cell phones which quickly escalated the cost of the program. In 2008 the program cost $772 million, but by 2011 it cost $1.6 billion.

A 2011 audit found that 269,000 wireless Lifeline subscribers were receiving free phones and monthly service from two or more carriers. Several websites have been created to promote “free” government cell phones, including the”The Obama Cell Phone” website at Obamaphone.net.

Rep. Tim Griffin R-Ark. has proposed a bill to eliminate federal subsidies for free cell phones and has produced a great YouTube videohighlighting the runaway cost of the program. The program has also been highlighted for reform by Senator Claire McCaskill D-Mo.

Pressure to reform the program led the FCC to announce an effort in February to “reduce the potential for fraud while cutting red tape for consumers and providers” by the end of 2013.

Bernake’s 3d Round of Quantitative Easing Explained

We have a sociopath in the White House. A Sociopath is a person who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.  Barack Hussein Obama went to a Las Vegas  for a fundraiser after briefly delaying his itinerary to speak on National Television regarding the death (assassination) of our Ambassador to Libya.  In the last four years, Barack Hussein Obama has destroyed  our economy,  driven up the price of gasoline and energy, forced Americans to accept Obamacare,  illegally advocated for Illegal Alien Amnesty via an Executive Order, engaged in a second Amendment plot via “Fast and Furious” in an attempt to disenfranchise gun ownership, stuffed the Supreme Court and lower courts with ideologue judges, stiffed us with massive failed stimulus packages, illegally disenfranchised preferred stock holders (GM),  had government takeover private enterprises  and has  punished job creators.

His final legacy will be Quantitative Easing  which means that the “Fed will print a ton of money” and will devalue the dollar. His lack of leadership in creating Fiscal Policy has forced Ben Bernake into a third round of Monetary policy. This in turn will create massive inflation  so that oil, food, medicine and all imported goods and services will skyrocket.

Folks,

The Obama Administration is simultaneously creating a Middle East Muslim Caliphate, distancing our support of Israel while weakening our Military, our Economy and attacking our freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution.

If we don’t Oust Obama in November, WWIII will erupt in the Middle East, we will be defenceless (Obama signed treaty that reduces our nuclear arsenal from 5000 to 1500 missiles and has asked the military to consider going down to 292) and after we plunge over the  fiscal cliff, China  will own our debt and our destiny!

Glenn Beck is one of  our “Watchman on he Wall”.  He warned us that The Obama Middle East Policy was leading to a Caliphate whose sole aim would be to march on Israel and to make Jerusalem their Capital. Last  May, during a rally for Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohammad Mursi, Egyptian Cleric Safwat Higazi spoke before an adoring crowd of thousands, proclaiming, “We can see how the dream of the Islamic caliphate is being realized, God willing, by Dr. Mohamed Mursi.” Cleric Safwat Higazi further stated that, “The capital of the United States of the Arabs will be Jerusalem.” 

It should now be clear to any neutral observer that  the Obama Administration has via its “Arab Spring” and “American Weakness” foreign policy initiatives,  have deliberately created  a Muslim Caliphate.

On February 11th 2011, Glenn Beck talking about the Tunisian Revolution stated:

‏“This is not just happenstance. This is not just poor people mad at rich people.

This is coordinated. Tunisia was the beginning. I think there is a chance Tunisia

was our Archduke Ferdinand moment that I’ve been telling you about, warning

that it would start in some place that wouldn’t look like anything – and most of

us wouldn’t understand it. He was the guy assassinated in Sarajevo.  Month later

Austria and Hungary declared war against Serbia and the rest is called World War One”

 

 

And now we see beginning of  the Obama Administration’s and the   Caliphate’s plan to obliterate Israel.  Our Egyptian Embassy , upon orders from the president “apologizes in advance”  for a motion picture uncomplimentary to Allah.  An apology that comes before the attacks on our Egyptian and Libyan Embassies.  After mobs assemble outside our Libyan embassy, our Ambassador is taken to a safe house under the protection of Libya. Our good friends in the Libyan Government  then aid the Muslim Brotherhood  by providing the location of our Ambassador’s “Safe House”, thereby enabling his murder along with other embassy personnel l.  Obama waits before announcing the deaths of our Embassy personnel  even while it is making headlines in Europe.   When he finally speaks, he soft peddles the entire atrocity and can’t wait to get on Air Force One, so he is not too late for his Fundraiser.

There is Another Pork Barrel Bill Coming Your Way

When our Senator’s and Representatives attempt to slip a bill like the Farm Bill HR.6083  through Congress, they must really believe that, we the members of the electorate and their constituents are either brainless, dim-witted or morons.  Even the financial scoring of this bill like most others, is filled with deception and dishonesty. Its no wonder that only 10% of our electorate  believes that Congress is doing a satisfactory job in representing our interests.

Take this time during the recess to bone up on upcoming legislation like the the Farm Bill and the UN treaties and  start a calling barrage into their offices. This period before November 6th is almost as dangerous as the “Lame Duck” session after the election, because the political phone calls, TV adds and multiple  mailings will turn many people off, causing them to drop their guard and  to stop paying attention to the happenings in Congress. This inattention to their actions is what Congress  looks for so that they can slink additional debt killing legislation through! The only way we are going to turn things around is to educate ourselves on how they perpetrate their shenanigans  and to CALL THEM OUT . 

For the Farm Bill, you Must call your Senators and Congressman and tell them that our national debt is headed for a Fiscal Cliff and we aren’t interested in any more PORK being signed into law!!! They intend to take up this bill after the get back from their recess.

Farm Bill” Question and Answer

As Congress continues its recess and activists across the country attempt to educate their elected officials on the problems with the current farm and food stamp bill, we wanted to provide the main questions that our folks are receiving on the road and their best factual response, all in one post.  Here you go, and we hope you find its useful.

How much does the so-called “farm bill”—the Federal Agriculture and Risk Management Act (H.R. 6083)—cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the bill costs $957 billion over ten years. The last farm bill, enacted in 2008, cost $604 billion over ten years. This bill amounts to a 60% increase in farm and food aid since the last reauthorization. Doesn’t H.R. 6083 “save” money? Not in any real world sense. As stated, the bill includes policies that over ten years will cost 63% more than the previous authorization. It is only because the Congressional Budget Office must ignore the expiration date of these programs and assume their continuation into eternity—including the Obama food stamp expansions—that the bill can be judged to “save” $35 billion. This is really just Washington-speak for spending 3.5% less than expected ($957 billion instead of $992 billion)—it’s not a cut. Isn’t H.R. 6083 really mislabeled as a farm bill given how much food stamp spending it includes? Yes. 80% of H.R. 6083’s spending is comprised of food stamp spending. This is because there are now 46 million individuals on food stamps, compared with 30 million in 2008 and 17 million in 2000. The reduction in the rate of growth to the food stamp program contemplated by the bill equals just $16 billion or 2%—not the sort of reforms that will lead to rolling back the food stamp program. This is one reason why most conservatives are so intent on splitting up the bill between its food stamp and farm subsidy components. Doesn’t H.R. 6083 include some much needed reforms to farm subsidies? The bill does eliminate wasteful direct payments to farmers, but it then plows much of the “savings” back into three new “shallow loss” entitlement programs that will actually serve to guarantee the profits for a larger number of farmers than currently benefit from direct payments. In addition, the bill sets new price floors for commodities (in most cases, higher than average recent prices) and expands crop insurance subsidies. Isn’t passing H.R. 6083 crucial towards passing drought assistance for those regions of the country that have been hard hit? No. The House of Representatives has already passed a separate piece of legislation—the Agriculture Disaster Assistance Act, H.R. 6233—to provide $383 million in emergency assistance to farmers, ranchers, and orchardists. The Senate refuses to act on the measure in order to put artificial political pressure to pass a massive farm bill. We opposed this drought assistance (see below), but regardless of a Congressman’s support for such assistance, it should have no bearing on whether they support a separate, long-term farm bill. Note: Some congressional offices, in an effort to confuse the issues, have noted that there is no food stamp spending in this separate drought package. That is true, but it confirms that the future of the drought package is not tied to passage of a multi-year farm bill. Should the federal government be providing $323 million in drought assistance? No. Proponents of the bill cite the drought’s impact on livestock—and the absence of livestock-specific disaster programs—as the principle reason for the aid package. However, the livestock-specific disaster programs expired in 2011, meaning ranchers knew that they had to plan for possible disasters, including drought. The Washington Post explained that “farmers should have to hedge as other businesses do: by diversifying their product lines, purchasing insurance at market rates, leveraging assets or maintaining cash reserves.” Because livestock producers did not take preventative action, they are now clamoring for a bailout. The bill also goes well beyond drought-inflicted livestock losses, by offering “subsidies to ranchers for livestock killed by raptors and wolves (along with hurricanes, floods, blizzards, disease, and extreme cold).” It also includes wildfires. The “drought” bill also covers trees, defined as “a tree, bush, and vine”, impacted by late-season freezes and insect infestations. Doesn’t the agricultural community need a farm bill during this recession? No. U.S. agriculture is thriving. Net farm income hit a record $98 billion last year and is expected to reach $122.2 billion in 2012. The top five earnings years in the last three decades have all occurred since 2004. With a healthy agriculture sector and a spiraling federal debt, now is the time to reform and eliminate commodity subsidies that cost taxpayers and distort the market.

Republicans accuse HHS of gutting welfare reform with quiet policy change

Republicans are accusing the Obama administration of unilaterally gutting welfare reform after the Department of Health and Human Services quietly notified states that they may seek a waiver for the program’s strict work requirements.

HHS made the announcement in a policy memo Thursday, news that slipped well below the radar amid a raucous day on the presidential campaign trail. But a few prominent GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill picked up on the change, and accused the administration of overhauling one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades.

“President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract” Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, D-Ohio, said in a statement. He also called the move a “blatant violation of the law.”

Mitt Romney on Friday spoke up on the change, saying: “President Obama now wants to strip the established work requirements from welfare.” He said “the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.”

How exactly the HHS change will play out is unclear. In Thursday’s policy directive, the department said the states may seek a waiver from the work component of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program, in order to “test alternative and innovative strategies, policies and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families.”

HHS stressed that any alternative should still aim to get welfare recipients into gainful employment. Any plan that “appears substantially likely to reduce access to assistance or employment for needy families,” will not be approved, the memo said.

But HHS is suddenly allowing for more flexibility in a program known — and in many circles, lauded — for its rigid framework. Currently, states have to have 50 percent of their caseload meet certain work participation requirements, though there are ways around that as many states fall short.

The latest department directive suggested alternative plans could “combine learning and work” to fulfill the work requirement, or let “vocational educational training or job search /readiness programs” count as well.

The hard-fought welfare reform agreement in 1996 was struck between the Bill Clinton administration and a Republican-led Congress. It is still considered a signature legislative achievement from that period.

The number of people on TANF has decreased dramatically since 1997, but roughly 4 million people are still enrolled according to federal figures. The change comes in the middle of a competitive election fight between Obama and Romney.

Rep. Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, have written to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius asking for a more detailed explanation of the change and her authority for making it. Both expressed concern that the change would strip the crux of the 1996 welfare reform deal.

“This ends welfare reform as we know it,” Camp said in a statement.

“I’m disappointed that after years of sitting on their hands and failing to propose any significant improvements to the TANF programs, the Obama Administration is once again over-stepping their authority and attempting to circumvent Congress through an unprecedented bypass of the legislative process,” Hatch said.

Glenn Beck says that today US Treasuries are being dumped in record numbers while investors continue fleeing the Euro. In the meantime the US is trading dollars for Euros in order to stabilize the European currency. Consequently, we are on the losing end of a financial bubble of monumental proportions.

  • A requirement that credit card companies report all transactions carried out by Italians, in Italy and abroad to the fiscal authorities;

  • Finance Police have placed cameras at the physical borders with Switzerland to register all license plates. In addition, currency-sniffing dogs have been deployed at the border

Barack Obama is threatening to do the following if Republicans don’t approve raising the record debt limit, allowing him to spend trillions more on the backs of Americans not yet born:

  • He won’t pay active-duty military personnel overseas fighting for their country and risking their lives and limbs;
  • He won’t send out Social Security checks;
  • He won’t make Medicare payments;
  • He won’t pay interest on the debt he has already accumulated, deliberately prompting a default and destroying America’s credit rating.

“The Gang’s proposal purports to offer “a net tax relief of approximately $1.5 trillion.”  Yet, the purveyors of the plan claim that it would concurrently raise revenues by $1 trillion.”  According to Senator Rand Paul at: http://video.foxnews.com/v/1068064948001/will-conservatives-back-gang-of-six-plan/,who has been  home schooled, says wait a minute  you purveyors of Fuzzy School of Economic Mathematica, you forgot to include the Geometrica theory of Truth in your Fuzzy Math Calculations.

It appears that  they are talking about “…cuts against a baseline. the Baseline is going up $9T over the next 10 years. If they cut $3T they are still going to add $6T to our DEBT over the next 10years.”

And where will the “Revenue” come from?   It is being reported that the “Gang” is  considering “Revising” mortgage interest deductions, property tax deductions, and you will now pay capital gains on your primary home sale. They are also considering “Revising” State Tax and Charitable Deductions.

The Tytler Cycle Revisited

John Eberhard talks about how he became very interested in a theory developed by Scottish historian Alexander Tytler, and wrote an article on it at the time, which ironically enough is now getting a lot of attention due to being linked to from Wikipedia.

In 1787 Tytler looked at every known political democray and discovered a common societial life cyle that had a span of about 200 years .Tytler’s theory set forth a cycle that every democracy goes through, which goes like this. Tytler said the cycle starts out with a society in bondage. Then it goes in this sequence:

(1) Bondage                         (2)  Spiritual Faith            (3) Courage
(4) Liberty                              (5)  Abundance                (6) Selfishness
(7) Complacency                 (8)   Apathy                        (9) Dependence

After the 9th step each society reverted back to Bondage.

Alexander Tytler went on to state that:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

Dear House Republicans This is Your Time For Choosing

Erick ErIckson calls upon  Republicans to show some backbone and finally Stand Up and be Counted after failing to fulfill their 2010 election promise to Repeal Obamacare and to move our economy from the precipice.

“In the election of 2010, voters sent you to Washington to do two things: (1) End Obamacare and (2) pull us back from the brink of financial ruin.

You have failed at the first task. Obamacare remains. You never even seriously attempted to restrain its funding or implementation. Heck, you haven’t even saved the incandescent lightbulb.

Will you now fail at the second task too?

If you cave, fold, or compromise on the President’s terms, you will have failed in both your missions. If you support Mitch McConnell’s plan, you will have decisively failed.

Now is a time for choosing. Now is your time for choosing.As I pointed out to John Boehner yesterday, despite what the pundits in Washington are telling you, it is you and not Obama who hold most of the cards. Obama has a legacy to worry about. Should the United States lose its bond rating, it will be called the “Obama Depression”. Congress does not get pinned with this stuff.

But there are a few points that you need to understand.

First, as the hours go on, the doom and gloom scenarios are going to get worse. By the end of July, Goldman Sachs, Ben Bernanke, and Timmy Geithner are going to tell you the world will end unless you raise the debt ceiling.

They did it with TARP too.
